Clinical Survey on Leprosy Patients

Abstract
The clinical. and hist323tiological studies were carried out on 120 leprosy patieatr who visited the Departm:tt of Dermatology; Medical School Hospital, Kyzagp00% Unlvera:ty d.ui-ag the period from O: toter, 1957 to April, 1953. The results obtained were as follows;
(1) By their clinical a =1fe,tatirsa; patients were. classified as folloAS: 33 out of 120 patients (3?.5¢¥0) were siffering fron~e_rrom-ttous leprosy, 43(35.3/) were found to be Tuberculoid, 7were found to be Neural leprosy, 2T (?2.5 ¢¥e) to be Indeterminate and 4 were Borderlipe group. Virtually all of them were mild, early cases of leprosy.
(2) Quite rarely, patients sign3 were recognized by others, and ill patients recognized their signs as leprosy by themselves.
(3) Here in Korea, the leprosy is commonly called "Dung" which is inci-xW all type4 of leprosy, "MamokM usually mesas macule3 and "San-Hu-Dung" is a current name for Lepromatous leprosy of puerperal women.
(4) 73 patients (60.8¢¥0) were found to have visited fae ho3pital from the beginning and 38 patients consulted at onset so-called or a herb doctor.
(5) Age of onset varied with the diffe.eat types of leprosy and the sex of patients .
(6) The site of initial lesion also varied with tae leprosy type, but usually bola u_oper and lower extremities were most frequeatly involved (43,41 re3pe:tively), and face was vulnerable site next to both limbs.
(7) As to it3 co-t:ribitory fa-,tora, tr:z*a-n-t3 p_ayei -is a fa::tor in 1) ca-_ 3 01 ti n, and . in 17 cases, tae direct, prolonged contact wits the leprosy patients were found to be one of the contributory factors, and 13 women became leprous wiflin 3 months after delivery.
(8) D.D.S. was found e7fective in 7T cases and in 10 ca3e3 tae results were excellent; on the contrary, 9_ cases showed aggravation after the administration.
(9) The accuracy of clinical diagnosis as compared with the hisiopathologic diagnosis is as follows: Lepromatous leprosy 94.3%, .Tuberculoid leprosy Indeterminate group 92.5% and Borderline group 100%.
